Thanks to the Melodic Odyssey of Oceanids for bringing this “abandoned” project to life!
I have always wanted to experiment with a fusion of jazz and Chinese instruments. This musical style was once part of the vibrant cultural scene of Shanghai in the 1920s and 1930s. While the art form faded after the late 1940s, it has experienced a revival since the 1980s.
Initially, I planned to arrange around four to eight tracks for this project. However, inspiration soon ran dry, and only two pieces were completed in the end. I had not intended to publish this project, but my sincere thanks go to the producers of Melodic Odyssey of Oceanids, who took an interest in the work and brought the sheet music to life in a final performance.
It is also an incredible honour to have Mr Jiajun Ma (马家骏先生) featured in this project as the guest Erhu performer. He is a distinguished professional Erhu player who has been featured in the official soundtracks of the video game Genshin Impact. His performances include the well-known tracks “Devastation and Redemption” and “Rex Cognito.”
Thank you for your time, and I look forward to future collaborations!
